That's the tank size I'm looking for.. I just stumbled upon the 72 x 24 x 30h at a great price. I'm torn whether to compromise and jump on the tank I found, which is still a nice size tank, or hold out for the dimension I really want.

Keep the DSB in the display, its what gives the tank character. Mine is over 7 years old and just as white as the day I installed it with no cleaning or maintenance and the notrates and phosphates are still non detectable. I think those who worry about DSB are the ones who mess with them too much and cause problems with the anaerobic and anoxic bacterias.
I prefer the depth to height too but having room for a 5-6" DSB is nice too.

I think 30 high looks nicer but having lived with one it would not be my choice again. 30 depth looks really good also but I'm thinking same problems different direction.

With a deeper tank it's easier to aquascape and still have lots of swimming room around it and room to clean the glass as well.

I am setting up my new 150 as we speak. It is 48 x 24 x 30. I am looking forward to having the taller glass for viewing and a tall aquascape.

Height of 30" is nice but 30" front to back is much better.

Here is the main issue with 30" high tanks:

You will not be able to reach the bottom without either taking your shirt off or getting it wet. Unless you are 7 feet tall you won't be able to reach the bottom of the tank with the top edge up in your arm pit, meaning you will have to get a step stool to do anything on the bottom of the tank.

I LOVE 30" front-back tanks because they give you such better aquascaping options.
