yeah, nirites too.... sea hares and sea bunnies will ploy through it but will most likely starve... maybe an urchin? or lawnmower blenny, mine eats algae like its going out of style... i would not treat it though, even if it says its safe, most treatments arent for inverts

Maybe your LFS will let you "borrow" a sea hare. Mine will sell it to you and then give you credit when you bring it back.

How big is your clean-up crew? Most people have one that is too small for their tank. Send a pic of your tank and the nuisance algae to John Maloney (reefcleaners.org) and he'll tell you what you need in there.

His clean up crews are awesome...I also got some plants for my fuge and my display tank, my macroalgae is GROWING and my GHA is slowly dying (it is not an overnight process to get rid of it).

Even if your phosphates are zero, it doesn't mean you don't have them. If you feed frozen foods you are probably putting them in your tank. The GHA absorbs it, so your phosphates will read zero if you have algae...mine always have with every single test but I know they're in there or my macro wouldn't be growing.

No PO4 or Mag kit (yet).

    Params:

Lights: 150 W Metal halide (K unknown), 2x 65W PC Odyssea "True Actinic"
Most of the bulbs to be found around here are Odyssea. These lights are about two weeks old (see back to my clam issue). The bulbs in my old fixture were also Odyssea, but bought off the shelf.

    Temp: 82F
    Spec Grav: 1.026
Ca: 450 ppm (Red Sea test kit)

    (All IO test kits)
7.875 DKH (a lot lower than last test of 8.2 two weeks ago! Possibly due to new filter in the DI unit)
    pH: 8.0
    NH3 (Ammonia): 0.0
    NO2 (Nitrite): 0.0
    NO3 (Nitrate): 0.0

Clean up crew is 1 adult turbo, ~10 astreas, ~6 small blue leg hermits, 1 peppermint. 29 gal w/1 gal canister

don't get a sea hare unless you plan to keep it fed, more of a pet than a cleaner, although they do eat a lot of algae, if you don't take care of them right, say goodbye to the whole tank. Your clean up crew is a bit on the small side,

    add 10 blue legs
    add 15 larger ceriths

Reduced lighting by two hours on the halides, reduced feedings (and dumped some live trigger pods in to keep the mandarin happy). 15% water change every three days, added half a dozen blue leg crabs.
I somehow forgot to get more snails, (and the LFS was out of Seifert PO4 and Mag kits) but it's getting back under control.
