I'm with Horkn. I was simply calculating the theoretical value of my corals based on what we paid per head or per polyp. I've never even sold a frag before to someone, we just give them away sometimes to friends or to the LFS. We're actually thinking about setting up a frag tank, though, because we have a spare light fixture now ;) Maybe we can use those as LFS currency  Our tank is "worth" alot if you theoretically count it out. But what Horkn said, starting your tank with frags is definitely the only way to go. Starting with colonies is just a waste of money. If you have high quality water and alot of time (we've had our corals growing for over a year now), you'll have quite the underwater garden.

But even if I sold a frag of 4 or 5 blues for twenty bucks, the colony is still worth $700 - $1000

Several expensive items. All added together I have around $4,500 in the 110 in hardware / sand / rock.

I don't really have much in my tank. But probably my live rock.

For single pieces, a 40-something head colony of goniastrea.....bought it at about 190, but it grew a couple more heads since I got it.

If you aggregate the 100# of rock as being one thing, that takes it by far, as I bought live.

    For equipment......my tank is a RSM 250 AIO...lol

My purple tang and bellus angel are the most expensive. My Borbonius that just died ranked up there. That was a hard one to see die.

    Equipment... all expensive.
