So, I got a KH test kit which measures in mg/L by the test results apparently I have 300mg/L KH which I determined to adjust to 9.9 meq/L and when I ran through a calculator was 27dKH?

How do I get this down?

Are you sure your test kit is accurate? Have you been dosing Alkalinity supplement?

The emergency methods to lower alk would be either massive water change or add some selzter water (just carbonated water) to the tank in small amounts.

Ive done the seltzer trick didnt work for me.. you need water changes with ro/di water from a home unit or local fish store.. I'd do a 25-50% tomorrow. my LFS premix salt ro/di water = 8dkh and its raw ro/di water = 0dkh. once you do that WC.. use raw/naked ro/di water to topoff evaporated water for next week. that will slowly get it down. dont want to over correct that problem to quick due to stress. and whatever you dont use kalkwasser mix.. this will make problem worst.. try to target 8-11dkh..

Also if you have to buy ro/di water at your LFS tomorrow have them double check your dKH results tooo.

Seltzer does work. You just have to make sure to put enough in and wait long enough. It dropped my dkh by 5 in two days.

I'm still wondering if the testing was done right...

    300/50=6meq/L * 2.8 = 16.8dkh

Your math is off I believe. 16.8 is high, but not as bad as 27

Mine is at 13dkh all the time. I literally stopped worrying about it. Do a few water changes to lower your dkh and do a few more tests.

I keep my ALK @ 8-9. Anything over 12 and SPS will not thrive.
