I keep hearing this squeaking noise in my tank. I have shut off everything includeing the pumps, but I can still hear it. I have a seventy gal. with a yellow tang, a regal tang, 2 blue/green chromis, 2 yellow tail damsels, an emerald crab, 1 doz. red legged crabs and misc. snails. I hear it more at night but also hear it some during the day.

Is it a squeaking noise or more of a snapping / popping noise?

Are there any fans on equipment that are still running?

Any lighting ballasts that are plugged in (even if the lights are off)?

Did someone get you with an Annoy-a-Tron device? http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/electronic/8c52/

Some fish make a grunting noise....

Are you sure a porpoise didn't hitch-hike on a very large live rock? a 70gal is probably too small for marine mammals, but they do make squeaking sounds :p

I had the same thing the other day - it was from my corner overflow. The tube sticking up from the drainpipe (the small tube that allows air into the drainpipe to help reduce noise) was partially clogged with salt/sediment, and was making a whistling noise. I solved the problem by pouring some RO water over it to dissolve the salt/sediment. It worked right away. Hope that helps.

Now, how ever I have ghosts, just kiding , That noise (poping was a small mantis shrimp) who has since found a new home! I am sure glad to be a member of this forum now it has helped me soo much. thanks to all.
