I am here looking to see if anyone has had this problem with a new or old tang. I added a yellow eye tang 3 days ago. everything seemed to be going well. was getting to be friends with the other fish in my tank with no problem. I did notice he was having trouble eating the frozen stuff i have, flakes and the algae paper. didn't think anything of it because i have had a fish do this before and they did end up eating. today when i got home from work i noticed something wrong with his mouth. like he has been chomping on my LR. his lips are protruding from his face more then usual. i would take a picture but he is hiding is a spot and i can't really see him to get a good shot.

not to sure on what to do. .... any help is good help, thanks

the lips swelling sounds like he tried to eat a bristle worm. I have seen some fish get almost bubble lips with it. Is he able to eat anything? I would try to get some small type of food........like baby brine or mysis so he can slurp it in

In regards to him panting.....he might be weaing himself out because his lips hurt but could be something else. What are your water parameters?

thanks for the response. i do have some mysis shrimp that i feed with a frozen cube of meaty foods or i pair it with some blood worms. all the fish love it....he just hasnt eaten yet. i brought him home 3 days ago. i do have a bristle in one of my rocks. what can they do to my tang? im not sure what that means. and i had my params checked yesterday everything is all good.

some bristles/fireworms have little hairs that sting. Look up cotton mouth disease, are there any dots on the fish?
