So this weekend we started some construction on a large closet upstairs and we had to move the tank. During the move, I set up my 10 gallon and added my prized pieces of LR and my false clown. The rest of the rock, which is base rock, was thrown into a large tub.

I drained the entire tank and threw the 60 lbs of sand in buckets to be washed and used in my new Aragrocrete project (which is a pain in the rear). I plan on buying 40lb of very fine white sand and maybe 10 or 20lbs of LS.

My old pieces of rock where terrible for Aquascaping(Small cow pie looking pieces). I want to buy new LR but am a little worried about the price of new rock! I swear the LFS tries to keep as much water as possble while weighing it! But either way I had a whole new stand and canopy build and just finished the custom hack job on disasembling and installing the Nova Extreme ballast in the canopy. Haha!

Since im buying new sand and possibly new rock, should I leave the base rock, thats in the tub, in water or should I just dry it out? I think its gonna be around a month before i restart the tank. Also whats the best way to go about that.

I wish I didnt have to cycle the tank again, but I want to do it right. If anyone has any advice in regaurds to buying LR or what i should do with my old I would greatly appreciate it. Ill post pictures in about a month!

keep the rock wet you don't want to have to deal with all that die off when you start it back up. I would just cycle some water in the tube about every week or so. There will still be a ton of die off so when you decide to use the rock again make shure you scrub with fresh salt water. If you are not using the rock see if your lfs will offer a trade for diffrent rock.

Well here is a new addition to the story. The extra heater i had running in the tub had blew sometime between today and Monday morning! I have no other heaters and now the water is room temperature. I guess when it rains it pours!

Well you can use this time to recycle the rock in the tub, should take about a month anyways. You can try to buy baserock online. Although I just tried and had mixed results. I tried to buy from Marco rocks, but he was back ordered. I placed a pre order thinking it would come in shortly. (all of the advertising and updates said any day) After two weeks I tried to contact them to cancel my order. I never heard from them. I emailed multiple times and called multiple times. I ended up having the credit card company refund me, at least temporaily until this is settled. I bought some rock from bulkreefsupply which I highly recommend. However, they only have small pieces left. Hopefully this is helpful.
