I got a huge hairy mushroom mabey 6/7 inches in diameter, but he's getting too big and too close to to other corals. How can i safely remove him and relocate him to another spot.I'd like to not damage him if possible and also leave none of the foot behind as i'd like to put something else where he is now.Any suggestions?

Edit-the rock it's on cannot be removed and there are several other corals on the same rock

Thanks for the suggestion, but it's in a tight spot and the tank is a 55,so only 12" width to work with.I'd like to chisel it off,but thats not gonna happen either in the tank.

The corals are grown over the rocks and this is a bottom rock of my main structure.

I've thought about just slicing him off and killing the foot with kalk, but the foot is about the size of a 50cent piece, theres a lot of coral in the immediate area,so i really don't want to go that route either.

It's just got me stumped for an easy way to do this without it growing back.

I have 3 like this, and got them from someone elses tank. I pulled the rock and chiseled it off, and it still damaged them a bit. But they were back to normal within 2 weeks. I have cut some with a razor blade at the foot and there was a little bit left on the rock, and it did not grow back, but the mushroom was placed in a small plastic container with rubble and it was attached in about 5 days. good luck

What if you cut it off with a very sharp scalpel then injected boiling water into the foot? This would leave minimal damage if any to the coral around it, and if they do get damaged the xenia and anthelia which are around the mushroom will very quickly grow back the small part(s) that got damaged.

Doh! I do the boiling water thing with aiptasia when needed, never even thought about that. Thanks JJL and Dowtish, that would work with minimal damage.
I'm wanting to let that area fill in with xenia while keeping the anthelia trimmed back somewhat but right now that mushroom is providing population control,he's already zapped 2 xenia stalks and a kenya branch that landed and stuck close by,lol. If he's not gonna play nice,he's getting evicted to the time out corner ;) thanks guys

It's hard to see from that angle, but that rock mound stops at the shroom and theres a few inch gap before the next mound (which is gsp, lol) but thats what i'm wanting is it to fill that area. It's just a simple mostly softy setup that i want it to overgrow, but just in controlled areas.
