I've always left the sand in during a move. If you have enough help, that would be best.

You do not want to rinse the sand in freshwater. That will kill your bacteria and infauna, leaving you with decaying organic matter buried in sterile sand.

If you must remove it, keep it wet during transport, and if you think it's necessary, rinse gently in old tank water during the rebuild. Quite frankly, at only 6 months old, I seriously doubt you have enough debris in your sand to worry about unless you were heavily overstocked. As a precaution, you could just run extra carbon for the first couple of weeks.

I've moved a few times, always left the sand in and enough water to keep it wet. Have lots of extra pails handy, you'll need way more than you thought lol. How far is the move?

What else are you looking to know? Also there are lots of threads of here about moving tanks.

Make it the last thing you pack up, and the first thing you unpack. I had a bad experience moving before. but i moved several hours away. Good luck with everything.

I have moved many times with a tank! But my 5 gallon cube was pretty easy to move around :p As was stated above, leave the sand in there, maybe enough water so it's just above the sand line, no more than 1/2". If you have corals, separate them by type. One bucket for SPS, one for LPS, etc. Rocks go in buckets, everything goes in buckets except the tank basically. Fish (depending on size) can go in with the coral. Just use common sense.

With such a young tank Maxter I do not think you have to worry about moving the sand bed. Just keep it moist and you should be fine.
