My wife and I will be putting in an offer on a new house later this week. Assuming we get it, I will have to move my 110 Gallon reef tank. I have done a google search, and read some posts on here regarding the moving process, so I get the basics of it.

I'd like some opinions though. There will likely be a two week overlap between getting the keys on the new place and moving out of our old one. We want to get some work done before the furniture is all in.

Would it be worth my while to set up a couple a small tank or two at the new place to make the move easier on my livestock? I was thinking of basically having a quarantine tank ready at the new place. It is only 5 minutes away from my existing house.

My reef system is relatively new, so I only have 3 fish and 3 corals to worry about.

    Cheers.

    that sounds reasonable to me
just to clarify - you will get the keys on the new place 2 weeks before you move out of old place?
if thats the case, why dont you just run the tank at the old place for the 2 weeks, while doing the work at the new place and visit a couple of times per day to check on it as its only 5 minutes away

then when the work is done, do the tank transfer
at least that saves you the expense of a couple of new tanks in the mean time

agree ^^^. keep the tank in place for as long as possible. when the renovation is done id move then. tip: buckets! and lots of them! try to keep as much of the LR under water and move as much of the old water you can. and since its winter move the fish to your new place first so they are not sitting around for too long and just put an air stone and heater with some LR in the fish bucket when you get to the new place. then move rest of LR then tank. corals in different buckets then fish b/c corals may be unhappy. also assume the move w/setup will take a full 12 hrs. for some reason it just does.

    Thanks for the input.

We will be staying in the old house until the new one is ready. We need to redo some floors and carpeting. That's assuming that we get the place. The Toronto real estate market often goes to multiple offers on homes, with someone paying WAY over asking price in the end. However, once my wife has it in her head to move, it will only be a matter of time anyway. LOL

The manager of one of my LFS has done moves before. I'm just waiting to hear back on his price for helping. The advantage there is that he would be able to bring his own buckets, etc. That would save me the cost of buying a bunch of buckets I will have no need for again. Also, he has a van already anyway.

I was just trying to think of ways I could leverage having that two week period of having both houses to my advantage. I suppose the only advantage is having the flexibility to move the tank on a different day than my furniture.

Sorry if this video has been linked to already on 3reef, but watching it makes me feel good that at least I'm not moving a 500 gallon tank. LOL
