moving clam

    I would move the rock. If you rip off the clam's foot it will die.

    moving the rock is probably the best option :) how big is the clam?

    It's better practice to cut the byssus threads that hold the clam in place, but I've seen clams yanked off their pearch with no injury either. The clam that I bought from Reef Gardeners was removed by pulling, and it's doing just fine in my tank.

    Clams secrete an enzyme that bores into rocks, and then anchor themselves using byssus threads. At any time they can "let go" of these threads voluntarily, which is why IMO they can be safely pulled off their rocks, as long as the pulling isn't too abrupt or violent. A light tug is how I've seen it done at LFS's.
