Get new sand for the 55. Add in the water, the rock and corals , then the fish. A lot will depend on if the tank is going in a new location or not.

From what i've heard people generally put new sand in, with just a cup or two of the old stuff to seed it. Prolly will want to watch your paramiters like a hawk for a few days too to make sure you don't go through a mini cycle after everything is switched. But using the water from the old tank and all your rock should minimize that, I would think.

ROFL, yea not spending money is never an option. check out my 55 gallon thread i did the exact same thing you did. and i am assuming you are getting more rock for the 55? if so just cycle the tank as normal and then once your cycle is done add the fish one by one.
