Moving a 29g tank across the room. It's against an exterior wall right now; I'd like to move it to the wall for the steps that go to the next floor. The room under the stairs will be for storage. The problem is the stairs are in the middle of the house.(floor slopes to the middle, naturally in older houses)

Dad & I were thinking of putting 2 floor jacks under the joists with two 2x6 braces perpendicular to the joists.

The full weight of the 29g tank would be about 350 lbs. (29g water x 8.35 lb + rock ,sand & stand)

    Whadda' ya think?

I wouldnt worry about bracing anything for such a small tankif you and your dad can stand on the spot you want the tank to go without falling through it'll be fine.

I don't agree with this, necessarily. A metal stand will distribute that weight on a much smaller sized area than a wood stand or feet. Even on a wood stand, it depends whether the bottom of the stand is a solid ring around, or just legs.

The stand is made of wood. The bottom is a solid box shape. Basically a rectangle.

Then I'd do the reinforcement just in case of long term issues, but it should be fine on the spot if you both can stand on the spot, like illwill said.
