So i have had cyano in my tank ever since i first started. Now it is mostly in my refugium so it has not really bothered me. When i move i plan to set up my 40B in the appartment, transfer everything from the 75, then drill the 75 for a 700gph overflow and return lines. Then set up the 75. I was thinking to start new in the 75 with reef crystals, so all the water would be good, new sand, then take about half the rock out of the 40B and clean it off completely to get rid of the cyano and put it in the 75. I have a few bottles of the instant ocean bio-spira so i figure this will jump start the tank. But the plan is to get the 75 cycled like stated, then move all the livestock over. Cleaning the remaining rock and then adding it. I think if i do it this way with half the rock first that it will allow the tank to build back up the bacteria before i transfer everything back.

    Any thoughts?

I just used ocean salt when i started which is not good for corals. So i want to get all of that out of the tank and just use the reef crystals, i have already been doing weekly water changes with the reef crystals so it will not shock my tank.

Anything i should do differently? or may have overlooked?

Also any tips on how to get all my snails out of the sand? and also my engineer gobie who is somewhere under my rocks in the sand?

I can only speak to the engineer goby - when you start moving things out and rock around, he'll swim out of the sand and you can catch him.....I would guess with the snails, you'll have to sift through the sand to find them....I'm not sure of the best method to do that.

New sand could easily cause a cycle. You won't have all of that beneficial bacteria helping keep the tank stable. I'd just use the same sand and scoop it out not worrying about the snails for the transfer. The fish and snails etc will bring the good and bad into the new tank like the sand would. If it's all in the sump, at least it will jump start the algae growth down there faster too.

All new sand, got rid of most of the rock except for like 20lbs down from like 100. Tank is doing good so far, 20lbs of the existing live rock, and i dumped in a small bottle of bio spira. Figured it couldn't hurt.

All fish made the move except for my sailfin :(
My engineer goby also seems more at home in the tank now, he comes out and eats, as before he was just hiding.

Picked out as many of the snails as i could, everything is moved and setup since the 7th and seems to be doing good. Clam seems happy. Dendro needs some work as he has not been fed in about a week when i was away from the tank.

But for the most part things seem good for the time being.
