    Yeah, it won't stink so bad once things settle down. Mine stunk like beach mud for about an hour after I restarted it.

    off topic: OFK - that tip with the cursor is epic!

    I'm starting the move next weekend and I got some help. Should go pretty smooth. I'll keep everyone posted after I set it up. Thanks everyone for all the advice. Is my sand bed really dirty? I figured the diatom bloom on the sand would just go away. The tank has only been up for 2 months now.

    Tanks only been up for two months? Ya, i'd say you're still cycling. Diatoms will eventually disappear on their own.

    That's what I though too. I didn't think my sand bed was dirty. I can't wait to start my 55 build next month.

    I'm all moved in and the tank is doing great. I added some more live sand to my existing bed since I vaccumed a lot of stuff out of it. The set up went real smooth and I didn't lose any fish. I'm sure it's going to recycle but it looks great. I put more live rock in as well. I figured I'd change a few things while I had it down.

    Did you have a nitrate spike? When I moved my tank I used the sand and it was a big mistake for me. I ended up doing twice weekly 25 gal water changes on my 150 gal tank for about 6 weeks to get them under control. It would have been much cheaper for me to have bought all new live sand.

    I cleaned the sand very well so I didn't have any problems at all. I added sand due to the vaccum removing quite a bit. Tank is crystal clear and everyone is happy and eating. It was a pain in the a** though. Lol.

    Dennis,

    DSB = Deep Sand Bed
    not Dirty sand Bed

    While I kinow there are many that still utilize a DSB

    In my educated opinion, long term they aren't that great, often causing big problems long term, etc.

    Now, I know it can be done, so don't slam me please!

    Less than 2", preferably 1" is all you should need.

    Glad your move went well and your DT is doing well.

    Tell us about the new girlfriend! Pics are nice!!
