I will be in the process of moving in a few weeks. My tank is coming with me about 10 miles down the road. I am currently using a hang on back overflow box that thas never given me any issues in the 2 years I have been using it. I was thinking that since I will be draining the tank to move it now would be a good time to drill it.
Do you think this would be a good idea or should I leave it as is since I have never had a problem. I was thinking of using a kit from gl*******s.com. I was also wondering which kit I should go with for a 90 gal w/20gal sump. Thanks for the input.

hm.....usually I would say if it isn't broke don't fix it. But an overflow would be nice....

That is what I was thinking also and I have heard all of the horror stories of peoples hob overflows not restarting afetr a power outage and draining the tank. I was just thinking this would be a good time to upgrade.

Drill it by all means. Definitely get a kit from gl*******s - they rock! The 700 gph kit would give you less than 10 turns/hour. I'd go with the 1500. I just put one on my 72 bowfront.

+1 for drilling! Look into herbie method drains while you're at it, they're the best. :)
I drilled 2 holes in my 33g frag tank and it was pretty easy. I would suggest practicing first on a piece of scrap glass (I used a $2 piece of glass from home depot) though and having a guide of some sort for the hole saw to keep it from skittering around when you start.

normally i try to stick with the "dont fix something that isnt broken" outlook... but id say go for it. The move is already such a major process, and if youve been wanting to drill it for some time (as i have with mine), then now is the time. good luck....

It's a breeze to drill. If you have a cordless drill set the clutch to the lowest setting, let the bit do all the work - don't force it - use plenty of water to keep the bit cool & to remove glass dust - most importantly - take your time. Watch the video on their website.

IMO I would not drill. For example if you just setup your aquascape and you like it but you wonder how it would look if u just moved a rock just a little and when you goto move it ten different things go wrong and then u have to spend the next half hour trying to fix it to the way it was. I would not mess with something that has been working b/c ten different things are going to go wrong. From my experience

Since you have the opportunity, definitly have it drilled. I think it would be crazy not to, but that's just me.
