so im transferring my skimmer over to my other tank soon but before i do want to clean it

when i clean my skimmer normally i just wash all the salt creep off and scrub it a little i was thinking of doing a deep clean. what i was thinking was putting in a 5 gallon bucket with a vinegar/ro/di water mix for a day and let it run pull it out scrub it down and then let it run in a different bucket with ro/di water in it for another day then rinse it off with fresh ro/di water to get any residue off it and then adding to my new tank. ik by doing this it will have to go through its break in period again no big deal there. would this work ?

That should work. Just look for leftover coralline in/on it before rinsing- it should just wipe off with a cloth or sponge after the vinegar soak.

FWIW, you don't really need to use ro/di for cleaning equipment; the tiny amount of residual impurities would be diluted into oblivion once it makes contact with tank water (you might still want to use a dechlorinator if you have city water).

Might as well give her a deep cleanin' now!

If you put vinegar in there and run it for a day or two, it will definitely need a break in period again, which if like you said is fine, I say go for it now.
