Interesting. I have had it for two years and never noticed any die-off. It just grows in that pattern. I have it both tanks and in a bunch of different spots and it all looks the same. What would cause die-off of this type of sponge? Any idea what genera it is in? The tissue is soft and, suprise, spongy. You can rip chunks right off and wedge it somewhere else and it will grow.

Be careful when ripping. If you ever get a Calcite spicule into your skin you will be very sad. It takes a long time for you body to dissolve them.

Heck, maybe I'm wrong then. That's just what it looked like to me. When I deal with LR, I'm dealing with 5000 pounds as opposed to 50 pounds so I get to see a lot of different sponges. Possibly my ID is wrong based on this new information. I'm going to send an email to a friend of mine and see if he can't narrow it down for you.

Great, thanks! I will post a better picture and see if that helps. Now I would like to know more in case there is a problem with the sponge.

Didn't know I could get stuck by a sponge either, thanks for the warning.
