I'm setting up a 72 bow front and want to get a pair of Vortechs, I also have a larger tank I hope to set up later but plan on keeping my 46 bowfront as well (the 72 will be sold when I can set up the larger tank).

The question is kinda twofold....will 2 MP10s be fine for the 72 (so I could use on the 46 later = is cheaper on my budget now) or do I need 2 MP40s (in which case I could use on the larger tank later). I do want 2 so I can link them.

I ask because the MP10 says that it's good for up to a 50 gallon tank, but I've searched & read others that say an MP10 is fine for a 72...I want to keep a mixed reef with more LPS and softies than SPS.

    Thanks for any help.

I think two mp10's are enough.Just keep in mind when run at higher speeds the noise does increase.Doesn't bother me but just keep it in mind.;)

Why not an mp10 and an mp40??

I think anything 4ft and under is ok for an mp10. Once you go to a 6 foot length ot really wide tank that has extra thick glass due to overall size is where an mp40 is needed.

I have 3 mp10s on my 65gal running at 50%. Master on the sidewall and 2 on the backwall.

    Thanks

One of each was my other thought.

Or 3 MP10s linking 2 on the sidewalls and the 1 on the back a stand alone that I can leave on at feeding time while the other 2 are put in feed mode.

I'd get mp40s and run them lower. Better wear on the pumps, less noise, and you have a bit more money in the upgrade budget when that comes around.
