As title says I have lost a Coral Beauty, and now a Chromis in the last 24 hrs. I just put in three new powerheads (Hydor Evolutions) and a Smart wave controller. I stuck my fingers in the water and now electricity. The powerheads do make a slight noise when turned on by wavemaker. All fish seem breathing heavy. Any suggestions?

It always hurts when you lose a fish. Need some basic info from you

    Tank size
    Filtration
    Temp
    ammonia, nitrite, nitrate
    salinity/specific gravity
how long has the tank been set up
any corals or inverts and if so how are they doing?

When you mention electricity do you mean you got shocked when you stuck your hand in the water

110 gallon, temp is 78, skimmer, sump, refugium, salinity .025, alkalinity is fine, ammonia is 0, tank has been set up for a year and a half, all corals are out and about and shrimp and crabs appear fine

no, do not get shocked when I stick my hand in the water.

You probably have a bad PH and its leaking current into your tank. I would remove them immediately!! You can check to see if you have stray voltage with a voltmeter. You will probably not be able to feel the stray voltage but it could still kill your fish. Also did you rinse the PH' s before installing them?
The noise you are hearing is from the propeller on the PH's smacking the rubber bumper which helps keep them from running in reverse. There a several people who have tried modding them with limited success. This is the reason I decided not to run my Koralias via wavemaker.

I love my koralias but I have read of a lot of issues with trying to hook them up to wavemakers. They are best used as a regular PH on 24/7 no wavemaker attached otherwise they will eventually cause you trouble.

I have to agree with Vinny sicne you parameters seem in check. That and the fact that the corals and inverts are doing ok suggest it is NOT a toxin or high nitrates since they would eb the first to show signs of stress.

Only other thing I can think of is stress, what is your livestock and how long have you had the CB and the damsel? ANy aggression issues?

That's really strange. Im sorry to hear about your losses. Im shocked that this happened. Especially to the coral beauty, i always thought those were pretty hardy. They're breathing hard? I agree with the others. Either the ph or voltage. Maybe the power heads mixed up some bad stuff in your tank?

The main things that come to mind have already been covered, so the only thought I have is perhaps you stirred something up that was undisturbed prior to the increase in flow. I'd typically think of ammonia here, but if that tests zero I might consider hydrogen sulfide. However, it's possible there was an ammonia spike and you missed it. Regardless, I'd say running some fresh carbon and a water change are in order.
