i have a serios algae problem. i am considering re-curing my LR. i have a 75 gal. tank w/ about 50lbs of LR. i was thinking about doing half of it today. and the other half in about 3 weeks. a few questions tho... will this send my tank into a cycle? what temp should i cure the LR at? where should i set my salinity? and how much agitation should i have in the curing tub? any help would be appreciated.. thank you and happy easter

i think you talking about "cooking"

the salinity and temp should be the same. a powerhead for surface movement is need(point at surface not rock). block out all light set for 3 weeks. half way go through replace all water, and shake rocks in bucket of saltwater to remove detritus. clean the rock again after 3 weeks before putting it back in the tank.

What are we talking about here? Curing or cooking? I think you mean nuking (cooking)?

If you do it for algae, the entire tank must be done. Algae will leave it's spores everywhere. The rock, sand, everything must be done all at the same time in their entirety to get rid of the algae.
What type of algae do you have?

green hair, cyano, bryposis and diatoms to name most, we just spent the last 3 hr's scrubing all of our LR so we will try to keep up with it this way. Our lawnmower is weighing in at about 10 lbs (lol) so he is doing his job. we are down to 2 turbos tho. so we will need to get a few more next trip to LFS. here's a question tho could our overabundance of algae cause the death of turbos? we have lost two in the last month. They were rather large so im hoping they died of old age. we will keep doing frequent water changes and will be adding a fuge in the next month or so.

what species of "turbo"? margaritas and large astreas make up the majority of turbos in the hobby. Astreas can't right themselves, margaritas overheat.
