so i was reading about all these nano tanks everyone is doing. i had a thought ;D. my wife hates my thoughts!! if one had the room could they plumb it into say a garage or shed and share a huge sump set up. what would be the cons of this. i like the pros of having a ton of water but only five gallon or so dt.

sounds awesome, i plan on doing similar someday, The only cons would be temperature control and contaminate control, but as long as the place the sump in is ok, sounds great. I can't use my garage because I do all my own work on my cars, and it gets to cold in Ohio for a shed.

There is nothing wrong with multiple tanks sharing a sump. As someone stated temp management will be something to consider, also make sure your sump has enough free space for all the water coming from the tanks and plumbing in the event of power outage.
    Currently I have a 40b and a 10g standard sharing a 20l sump.

On a much larger scale than you're looking for...

But this could be done with any size display (or sump for that matter). As mentioned I would only be worried about temperature control as well as possible fish/coral diseases being spread to other tanks. The idea is nice though for cutting costs, and also maintenance convenience when you have multiple setups.

Yep, make sure to design it so you can isolate either system when needed...
