I currently have a yellow wrasse in my 60 gallon. He's been doing great but I'd like to add another fish and I was thinking of another wrasse. I saw some melanrus wrasse at the LFS the other day and I thought about one of those. I read a little about them but am not sure of their compatibility with other wrasses.

    Here's my current stocking list.

    Coral Beauty
    Maroon Clown
    Diamond Goby
    Yellow Wrasse

    Any suggestions?

most wrasses don't play well with one another, I would try to get something other than a wrasse to avoid the possible fighting.

    Other suggestions:

    Royal Gramma
    Banggai Cardinal
    Midas Blenny
Pearly Jawfish (if you have tops)
    Flame Hawk

^ We'll have to agree to disagree there.

I assume when you say "yellow wrasse", you mean a canary wrasse?

If so, a melanurus will be fine with it. I have those two together myself. Halichoeres wrasses are quite peaceful, and will co-exist just fine with each other and with other Fairy and Flasher wrasses as well.

Yep, it is a yellow canary wrasse. I was looking over the list in this post and a midas blenny would be a good option too, although I think wrasses are very interesting fish. Will the melanarus bother my cuc of snails and crabs?

In terms of the CUC, it's a bit of a crapshoot. Some do it worse than others. Mine will go after a hermit on occasion, but often the hermit is faster than the fish and retreats inside his shell before he becomes a snack. Some Melanurus keepers report they may go after an occasional snail if one gets flipped over.

If you keep them well fed, you'll reduce the chances of them picking on the CUC. It's honestly not that bad though.

Any of the larger shrimp/crabs will be completely safe.

I have a Blueside Fairy Wrasse that takes out my Nassarius snails, and nips at my hermits. Like evolved said...some will, some won't. Some will that everyone says won't.

What about a leopard wrasse? I have a pod population that has been in the refugium and tank for about 9 months now. Would that be a decent choice?

I wouldn't do a leopard in a 60gal personally. Any of the flasher wrasses would be well suited for a 60 however.
