Multiple wrasses?

Well guys i havent heard much about it being a problem, but i put a six-line into the display the other day and him and my flasher wrasse didn't really hit it off. They chased each other around a larger piece of rock for hours. It appeared that the six-line won because the flasher went into hiding and the sixline moved on to my gold stripe maroon clown (Boss Hog in my tank). I think the maroon clown won because the sixline went back to the territory he won already. I figured everything was good. He was bold. Which was good for my tank. Then in the morning he was layin in a corner on his back. Figured he was dead (weird!) and went to scoop him out.. He scooted under a rock. I took him out. Put him in the sump for a day. He started swimming and eating so i put him back in the display. The other fish didn't bother him, but come morning he was toast!

Any thoughts?

obviously wrasse wrasse had problem of some kind. Taking on a Maroon was kind of foolhardy.

Expect may have been injured during fracas.

Else it just went belly up due to all the stress it had been through.

Try another...they are really a cool fish & not all act like yours did.

But it's true, your sixline had a death wish. Usually if a fish is new to the tank, it shouldn't be bugging any other fish. All the fishes in my experience have gone immediately into hiding (no matter what fish) for a day or two until they get acclimated to the new environment.

I would try one more, as well.

 

Sorry for your loss, six lines are IMO one of the prettiest fish available but also can be very aggressive! Its kind of funny because my six line and GBM get along fabulously, even to the point where the 6 line hosts with my clown in my frogspawn, they both get right down in tight together. Guess it just depends on the fish.

 

I have a Sixline and Flasher they follow each other around all day was almost like watching two clowns pair up.

 

Well, I will try again. So the wrasses should be ok together? There isn't some kind of rule against it? The LFS i go to is pretty knowledgeable and knows exactly what's in my tank and he didn't say a thing about it. The gold stripe is still pretty small (2" at most) so i couldn't really see him doing all that much damage. Thanks guys!

Sixline Wrasse

Scientific Name: Pseudocheilinus hexataenia
Family: Labridae ​

Besides its incredible beauty, it is great fun to watch whizzing around tank, playing in heavy water current and "schooling" around with other fish.

It is a fish with wonderful characteristics.

It will eat flatworms, bristle worms, small nuisance snails (esp. those that prey on clams) and is known to act as a "cleaner" to other fish that might be afflicted with some parasite such as Ick.

I often see it carefully inspecting my larger fish, which will hold still for it to do so.

While it does carry a bad rep for being overly aggressive, mine is the most docile, mellow and fish friendly in the tank. The reason being it was the last fish to be added to the population, other then my flame wrasse, which it does not bother at all. It seems to be that they will not tolerate new fish.

He has lots of personality and fun to watch him following around my coral beauty which his best friend.

The only downside that I have heard of, is that it also loves copepods which will put it in competition with other pod eaters, such as mandarins. But my mandarin is a fat little sausage so does not seem to be a problem in my tank.

So for a cheap, colorful and playful addition to a already established fish population, consider adding a sixline wrasse.

It is the perfect reef fish.

I love mine.

My sixline happily shared tank with my Hawaiian Flame Wrasse (RIP - lossed due to an overtemp ) for ages...(a very, very docile fish)

Now is very content to share with a Coris Wrasse...(a very, very, not so docile fish...)

I think most of the wrasses will do ok together if not too similar in color and body shape.

My experience anyway.
