I bought a single green mushroom yesterday at my LFS. Paid $10 so not a huge price tag but it is still really pretty! It wasn't attached to anything so I have a cup in my tank, as many know due to my urchin, that sits in my tank so I can attach shrooms to rocks. Well I brought it home and placed it in my tank. Also in my cup I have a very tiny red shroom and a yellow riccordia. The red was almost fully attached and the reccordia I just put in the cup that day. The cup is in a area that no one can get to it anymore except Hermies. I haven't found any hermies in there recently but I went to check to see if the red was ready to come out. The riccordia and the green were smacked up against each other so I seperated them. The green then started to stream out the brown goo that corals seem to poop out. There was a lot of it. It made me look closer and there is a rip down the side of the green.:eek::eek: I placed it back in there and couple hours later found hermies in there cleaning up the goo. I know technical term.....goo! Do you think my green shroom will be ok or should I call him dead and get him out of there?

Shrooms are pretty hardy corals I think it will be fine. People frag mushrooms by cutting them into pieces and those pieces will eventually grow into new corals, so a rip or cut shouldn't be a problem. Make sure they have some flow and put bridal vail or a bag that oranges come in over the cup so nothing can get in there and the mushrooms can't float away. Did you put small pieces of LR so they can attach to them in the cup?

I wouldn't call it LR but there is some large pieces of rubble in there for them to attach to! I never thought about the cover. That's a great suggestion! Thanks! So what was the brown gunk or goo coming from it?

That goo is the corals digestive system. When stressed they release it out as a form of defense. I think the shromms would be fine tho, as stated a hardy coral tht is fragged by cutting them in half.

Well it wasn't fine. I went to check on it today and to see how the others were doing also and the green had disenigrated (sp?). I couldn't even find pieces of it it was just gone.

The fact that it was releasing its digestive track shows that it waasnt happy where it was. Its possible its moved its self to a better location and you just cant see it.
