I got this mushroom from a store i havent been to before, it is a pretty large purple mushroom, not sure of the specific kind but i saw it and looked gorgeous so i got it, unfortunately i was buying something else and didnt watch the person detach it from the rock, he seems to have shredded the side of the stalk as if it was attached in multiple places along the side of the stock

is this coral gonna be ok? anything i can do to help it?

Mushrooms are very resilant, typicically,if even only a few cells survive, they'll regenerate. But it does not look happy, the way it's streching makes me wonder if the flow/lighting is too high where it's at.Along with it still acclimating and just getting used to your tank.

Also, how did it get attached to the rock it's on now?By itself,or did you glue it?Mushrooms slime and get irritated/burnt from superglue, the best way of attaching is in a container in a low flow area with some rubble rock.Once it attaches itself, you can move around till you find it's happy spot.Low flow and sometimes even shady spots. Then get ready for more, lol, they tend to reproduce often.

its not glued to anything, it was attached to that little brown branch type thing when it was in the store, and it seems like the side of the stalk was attached to the main rockwork in the tank and he just like shredded it with a knife down the side... would FW dip or iodide dip help it or just leave it be? ive turned the lights off for now for the night so as to not harm him more, will turn them back on in the morning.

I seen that little branch on a 2nd closer look,I would just move it down to the bottom in a lower flow/light area and give it time to acclimate and heal,it should be fine in a short order.Within reason, they're kinda tough to kill.

I own a huge cabbage leather myself and purple/blue mushrooms but now that Corailline mentioned it,it does resemble a small piece of po'd cabbage.

    Buuut,either way,you're in luck.

Leathers are very hardy and regenerate from a few cells as well, after it acclimates and heals it will still be fine, leathers can take a little while sometimes to acclimate and fully open again. Also, running carbon is recommended with leathers as they release toxins that can irritate other corals in the tank. The carbon will help with the removal of these toxins.Leathers like plenty of good flow compaired to mushrooms who prefer lower flow areas.

Now on the other hand,I have managed to find ways to really tick off mushrooms (tech-m treatment),lol, and have seen them shriveled up,distorted and streching out looking like the photo, the coloring in the pic is making it hard for me to tell which of the two it is.Does it have a mouth in the center?
