hi everyone hope you all fine and dandy!!! i wonder if anyone could help me out or has ever heard of my problem before?? basically my tank has been up and running for around 18months now. all has been pretty good up till recently.
i have noticed over the last few weeks my mushrooms have been slowly dying off.they have been shriviling up. just today however on my largest and oldest one that there where white "worms?" on the outer edge. they weren"t in the mouth. i shall try and get a picture up later, but it looks like a clump of spagetti, albeit very small spagetti!!! when i tried to move the clump around it broke up and "appeared" to go into the mushrrom itself!!!!!

i have to admit that its probably hard to invision what im saying and i shall do my best to get a good snapshot in a while!!!!!

until then i just wondered if anyone has any idea what it could be?? could it be a "parasite" or is it a disease maybe??? i just find it convienient that my mushys have been dying off now i have seen this!!!
    any help very much appreciated..

    thanks guys

ok here is a pic, note the healthy green mushy below right? i just dont get it.one is ok one is not 19042009400.jpg :-/

these white spaghetti worms sound to me like the insides of the shrooms - I have seen this when they have been handled to much when fully expanded (not saying thats what your problem is, just saying thats when I have seen this before)

have you added anything new recently that may be antagonising the shrooms?
has anything been changed recently in your set up, that may make the shrooms behave this way

Could be mesentarial filaments but they usually come out of the mouth. What have you got next to the mushrooms?

hi there thanks for getting back and the knowledge! ive got some pulse coral next to some of the mushrooms but if im completely honest they are scattered throughout the tank levels,as they have been in there since the word go and have generally spread.havn"t handled them too much, but that being said i did remove/disturb them as i cleaned off some of the live rock but that was only last week and just to keep the hair algae down.....
the only new addition has been a few more pieces of live rock and a new protein skimmer, which is pulling out shed loads of muck!!!!

i take it they will die if im seeing this wormy stuff, or is it something they do as a defence??? i only say that because there are still quite a few "shrivelled" mushrooms in the tank, that i noticed a few weeks ago when this first started happening.. lastly i forgot to mention that all other corals/fish etc seem to be fine and growing!!! many thanks everyone, its very appreciated....

It's usually something that they do as a defense, usually against a different species of coral. But again, they usually come out of the mouth of the coral. Any chance you could post a picture?

Yes, in general these filaments come out of the mouth, but recently when I moved a rock full of green ones in my tank , I noticed these also coming from the shrooms extremities - they where right again within the hour
it seemed to happen because the shrooms where trying to empty/deflate themselves to quickly and as such part of their insides vacated along with the water

so it could be inter species aggresion or it could be a water quality issue
with the shrooms filling and deflating quickly due to something in the water thats bothering them

I have one type of mushroon that will do that now and then..??

Mine will also turn alittle darker in color when it happens..
I keep my Tang away from it, he picks at stuff he doesn't know what it is..
After 5 minutes or so.. seems like along time.. LOL
He'll pull everything back in and be OK..
This morning I noticed a smaller mushroon, same kind had done it..
He's OK now.. I also think some do it more then others.. My other mushrooms never do it..

I think they get PO'ed for some reason..

    Good Luck, Larry

I had one of my green hairy mushrooms do this when I accidentally sucked it with the gravel vac. It went away and the shroom is fine. Looked like white spaghetti like you describe.
