    hi,

I have some red mushrooms and they've decided to float off and repopulate another part of the tank. I guess because of the way my powerheads are they have landed on the sandbed and keep ending up there even if I put them on a rock. My question is whether I can just turn off the powerheads for a while and then place them on rocks and then turn the powerheads back on after they've anchored. I think the return flow from my remora hang-on skimmer would cause enough turbulence to keep the tank oxygenated for that period.

How long on average would it take for the mushrooms to anchor?

    Thanks! ;D

It takes them at least a few days. Do you have a small piece of rock you could put where the like to go?

put them in a glass jar with some rubble in the bottom. The jar will keep the flow off them. In a week or so, you can then glue the rubble wherever you want.

I would also put something like wedding veil rubber banded over the jar to keep snails out.

You can pretty much use this technique on any softy you can't glue down.

take a plastic water bottle and cut it in half. place some rock and sand in side but dont fill up. place shroom inside and the walls of the plastic bottle should protect from current. did this with 2 ricordias that the lfs sold me for 5 bucks because he didn't know if it would attatch

Try like Peredhil said and keep the snails out. I have a snail with a green striped mushroom on it, he doesnt go far or fast but he makes it. You could just take a veil and wrap him lightly to the rock of your choice and he take hold of it.

another way is a small piece of netting, tie the ends down so it holds the shroom on the rock and it will connect its self!

Another thing i do when i want a lot of shrooms is i put one throw my return pump, it gets all choped up and one shroom turns into about 10-15!

I used a bottom of a yogurt container I cut and put some live rock rubble in. Place some wedding vail over it and secure with a rubberband. Place in the back corner or out of current and leave for about a week. Should do the trick.

I do this when I cut mushrooms for propagation. This keeps the little pie shape pieces from floating away to unwanted places in the DT.

    Good luck.
