Mushroom ?

I woke up this morning and noticed one of my shroom rocks looked a little spacious. Then I panned to my left and saw one of the bigger shrooms from that rock laying in the sand. Is this normal for shrooms to detach when the rock becomes too crammed?

was he glued to the rock?
because they can realese from the glue and they will just float about the tank

 

He must have been glued because I do not see any pieces of him still attached to his old rock. So he probably did not bud then I guess. I put him in a little plastic cup with a little rock and stuck him in my refugium. Is that what I should do with him?

Based on some of the mushroom rocks I have seen in my travels, I would say no, it didn't detach because the rock was "too crammed." It's probably just looking for somewhere more suitable to live and make babies. Put some sand in that cup and let it attach to some of that then use some super glue and attach it to another rock somewhere. It will be fine.

this is just my two cents worth here, but I have tons of mushrooms, and yes sometimes, it kind of seems like a seasonal thing, they will just fall out, float around the tank for a few days, then i'll find them attached somewhere and the next thing you know they start making babies. Then there will be alot of them crowded together for awhile, then they do it again. I have them under rocks, on rocks, in the sands, and even on my back glass.
