What lighting do you have and what are your water parameters?

i am waiting for my new test kit so thats all i can test for know
as far as lighting goes i only had 3 fluorecents 18 watt lights,2 10,000k and 1 actinic 460. I just bought this weekend a coralife compact fluorescent 130 watt with a 65 watt 10,000k and a true actinic 03 w/ lunar light and legs for $50 off CL.The protein skimmer thats in the tank know is about junk so i am saving for a new one.The filter is an Aquaclear 300.I am not running carbon should i be running carbon, also i am not dosing with any thing either.I think thats almost covers my tank,Thanks for any help.

Also sorry for putting this in the ID this section is was not paying much attention.

New lighting will help, how much and how often are you doing water changes? I would wait a few days after you've added the new lighting, if the mushroom still isn't opening out properly you might want to try moving the rock with the mushroom coral on around the tank until it looks more healthy. It could also be that your skimmer isn't working very well so a new skimmer and lighting might be all that's necessary,

    hey cardshark
been looking and re looking at that shroom, Im not an expert by any means, but I have had a lot of different colours of shrooms over the years - cant name any of them - greens, browns, reds, blues some with hairs and some bald

I cant see a lot wrong with your shroom to be honest

I can see some GHA on the rock behind your shroom, which may mean that your test results are a little off (as the algae is consuming your nitrates/ po4 before it registers

Like invert Phil above- I reckon a good skimmer will improve water quality and thus your shroom should also expand more - and good lighting can cause it to extend its foot and lift off the rock

Fragging shrooms its relatively easy and has a very high success rate

you need a sharp knife or scissors and you cut the shroom into quarters going through the centre or mouth with each cut

you will then have 4x Kraft (tm) cheese triangle shaped sections that you can place on a rock, cover with bridal netting or net curtain material and secure using rubber bands

place said rock with 4 quarters of shroom in a plastic bowl or tub at base of reef, leave for 2 weeks and then carefully remove netting - as 4 x sections should be secure to rock and starting to round off

if you knew this, sorry, I obviously have to much free time on my hands

    Steve
