This is a fragging tecnique I have used for years. One week before fragging, I PURPOSELY starve them for light. Give them 1/4 the light they are used to. They will stretch out and then all you need to do is snip them off. Then the bit left behind is the broodstock for the next fragging session.

How old are your bulbs? PC bulbs are actually one of the more expensive bulbs there are. At the 6 month mark, the par value they put out is almost nil. If your coral feeds primarily off of Dissolved Organics, they will be fine. However, if you also have some corals that require a lot of photosynthesis, you'll find some corals doing well, while other corals are wasting away.

I have my green striped mushrooms on top of a rock maybe a foot away from the light. (My GLO T5 lights are not that strong). They seem to like it there and have grown nicely. No "jumping off" has occured. Maybe the water movement plays a role too. I think they don't want to be in an area of high turbulence.

i have mushrooms living in both bright and shady locations. something upset yours for sure but fear not, mushrooms often detatch when it gets too crowded and then they float around and eventually latch onto some place new and begin a new colony. i have had colonies reproduce until it gets to crowded then a few pop off and float away. no harm no fowl.
