Whats the deal? I'm reading posts about everyone elses mushrooms growing and spreading like crazy. Mine just sit there on the same rock I bought them on. They've made some baby mushrooms on that rock. From time to time one seems to get really big for a few weeks and then shrinks again. I fragged one and put it on another big piece of LR in the tank hopping they would spread from there. No luck. It stayed small and isn't spreading.

The rock is on the sand bed. I used to have PC lighting (4x65W) and then recently upgraded to T5s. The mushrooms seem to be smaller now and have changed color from pure brown to a brown with some turquoise in it. Would seem to imply they want less light.

Here is a pic from 11/18/2007 when I got them.

Yes there is some growth but it seems like the growth has slowed down considerably.

Nitrates are undetectable to 0.5 ppm.
    Temp is 80F.
    pH around 8.1
    dKH 7
    SG 1.025
    Phosphate 0
    Ca 480

Everything else is growing. My BTA is getting huge. My Toadstool is having a baby and my Colt has doubled in size since I got it. Xenia are spreading like crazy.

Should I put the rock in complete shade, give the rock more light or leave it where it is.

    Anybody have any ideas?

If you are giving them the proper conditions then I wouldn't worry about it. Some types grow faster than others. If it is new, it sometimes takes a month or more for the coral to start growing properly after being placed in the aquarium. I would try some coral food and see if that speeds it up. Good luck.
