so I've come across hamlets and I'm intrigued. Ive looked all over and haven't come up with much. One youtube video of one in an aquarium, not much else. So why haven't these fantastic fish become popular? Specifically the Mutton hamlet. Its red color and grouper like body seems like the perfect small display predator. But I'm beginning to think that ill never be able to get ahold of one since there are only like 5 pictures of them. What are your thoughts? why aren't hamlets more popular than they are? and can i ever get a mutton Hamlet?

Pretty fish, I wouldn't mind one either (if my tank is big enough that is).

they get, on average, 7 inches, so not much bigger than regular hamlets. why arent hamlets more popular?

Did about 30 minutes of searching. They get around 30cm (1 foot) max size, I'd assume they need to be in a pretty big tank, like 210-300g. judging by the care of more commonly available blue/indigo hamlet, they're semi reef safe (eat crustaceans and smaller fish). Super aggressive to other hamlets and basslets, but are most often bullied by other more boisterous fish.

My guess is that the market just isn't there, (not worth collecting), as they are found around 40-50m.
