So to continue the story, I needed to find a pump that could handle 10 ft of head and provide the flow that i needed. Another Craigslist search and a 100 mile trip to MD and I became the proud owner of a Hammerhead pump for $150. Now I need to decide if I am going to keep that or flip it for an in sump DC pump. Any input would be helpful! I would prefer not to drill the sump but economy and reliability are my two big factors so if I'm better off then I'll drill away.

That brings me up to this past weekend. I sold the 6 ft 220 tank and immediately began looking for new items. First was 200 Lbs of rock for $400 then the big score... A huge reef octopus for $276!

So here is the total outlay for the build so far:

    6 ft 220 gallon tank $300
7 ft 220 gal tank and stand $100
    Rock $400
    Skimmer $276
    125 gal sump,stand, T-5 light
    WP 25 x2, mag 7 etc $200
Glass hole saw, bulkheads $ 42
    Stain, polyurethane , brushes $ 35
Silicone, razor blades, tape etc $ 25
    Electrical wiring $65
2 7ft sections of glass for overflow $75
    _____________

    Sub total $1,518

    Sold 6 ft 220 gal tank - $500
    _______________

    Total to date $1018

So far my total is closer to $5 per gallon, however I have not looked at lighting as of yet which will be one of the larger purchases. I will also need another 75-100 lbs of rock, sand and some additional plumbing items. I have 4 floor jacks so there is no expense there. Hopefully the tank will get drilled soon and i will be able to mock things up to see how i will run the plumbing and hang lights.
