can you just drill the tank you have? surely someone at a LFS should be able to help you out on how to do it, then just buy or build an overflow. why buy a new tank when you have one that is perfectly fine already there. As long as the glass isnt tempered.

Yeah bogie, he wont ever charge me. He is very good friends with my buddy jason. he already has this tank sold, as he knows about it through the guy who is helping me. He said he has a customer that is looking for this tank so he might give me a decent amount for it. I know its isnt gold or anything, but if I can get a stand/tank combo for 500.00 more with the trade of this tank/stand then im going to do it. I could go with a 72" long tank, but will be using my 60 inch light, hung from the ceiling. We will see what happens here. I have to call the LFS tomorrow morning and will know what route im going then.

I could drill the tank forsure, but im going to have abit of cash in the over flow kit, and the black guards that cover them. Also, i cant seem to get confirmation that the tank is or isnt tempered. I cant seem to get oceanic to answer that. Either way, we will see. Will find out what he has to say tomorrow.

That 2x 150 w halide outer orbit won't light the bottom of the 120 gallon, let alone a 6ft tank you'd need 3 x 250w HQI (double ended MH) at least for 24-28" deep. You might want to try to have your LFS buddy sell that light included as a package deal with your undrilled tank.

my buddy Jason has a double 150 watt MH with compact flourescents and a 22 inch deep tank, and his light the bottom just fine. all of his corals are thriving like crazy. I understand mine will be 2 inches deeper, but the light also comes with 4 55 watt T5HO bulbs. But I will see what he will give me for it, or if I can send it back to Current and just get a Nova Extreme 72 inch. Unless you think it isnt worth it to go T5HO at all???

Well guys, put my tank on craigslist today and I think ive got it sold. I ordered an All-Glass-Aquariums 125 reef tank today, and it will be here thursday. Ill be going friday to pick up the tank, sand, salt and heaters, and should have a sump here this week sometime. Im going to use the 60 inch light I have here and hang it over the tank. Im sure ill get some flack for this, but with the T5's and MH I dont think I really have much to worry about honestly. Ill upgrade to a 72 in the future here.

Just bought a tank tonight to make a sump. I wont be using it as a refugium, just as a sump. Should have the pieces cut tomorrow at work and be assembling them here tomorrow night. My question is do I need a shelf for bio balls?? Or can I just let them set in the bottom of the first compartment??? I guess a shelf would be better eh so the water can pass over the bio balls?

There's no defined rules on how to set up bio media in your sump. As long as the water flows though them at a rate so they perform their purpose, then you're ok. You can run a 60" fixture over a 72" tank without anyone flaming you. DrFagenstine only has 60" T5s over his 180, for example. It's all about what your tank needs and what you like and are willing to spend.

Can't wait to see this one up and going! Post some pics when you can. Don't worry about the 60 inch light. Just do what's right for you and your wallet and keep the corals towards the middle.

Here was my design for a sump. there will be 7 inches of water in the inlet/bioball area, 6 inches in the skimmer area, and 6 inches in the return area.
