It will be your tank if you take the best suggestions and put them to work, besides a tank that should run quite smoothly.

I totally agree with you. But when I first started I had the fish that I wanted on paper. Then when I started people were like this would look cool or here put this in your tank. And me being soft hearted I said ok. Some lived, some died. I love my tank but half the fish in there i don't like. As for equipment and everything else im putting the best in so my tank will thrive along with good maintenance. I was referring to stocking so I didn't mean to confuse anyone.

Well I am giving an update to my tank. I had to make some modifications to the stand. I forgot about the bottom lip of the tank and didn't compensate for the border to go around it so I had to purchase some more 1" x 3" wood and raised it to compliment the lip. Also in the process if you can see I applied my first coat of polyurethane to the inside of the stand. I figure I will put on a coat a day for the whole week. I also purchased a shower mat to put inside the stand to help in case of a water leak. I know I got the idea off someone on this forum and I want to say thank you for the idea and good advise. Wish me luck.

How about this for your sand?

    http://www.marinedepot.com/CaribSea...Reef_Aquariums-CaribSea-CS0821-FISSDS-vi.html

Although, I have heard from a couple of people that issues with black sand. They said that it showed detritus easier and that they didn't feel like the sand reflected the light and showed their tanks at their best. I think it is a personal preference, but it sounds cool.

Another trick that I learned the hard way.....every tank can and will have splash from the sump at one time or the other and that can ruin drywall. We got a piece of tub surround from Home Depot and placed it behind the tank, gently attach to the wall. This way the back of the stand stays open for air flow and heat escape, but the wall does not get ruined.

Great size tank and I look forward to watching it develop.

Thanks for the info and Tahitian Moon it is. I will put sand sifters and conchs in the tank to control the detritus or I will just siphon it out. But thats what the CUC is for.

I almost used this sand but at the last min changed my mind to the regular white but what I learned about this specific sand is that you must wash it thouroughly moreso than even regular sand because it has an oily film with it, however once clean it should be the same as any other sand except for the color obviously

Thats one of the first three things I learned when starting up a tank, rinse the rock, scrub the rock, and rinse the sand.

Thanks for you input. Greatly appreciated.
