Here are some pics of the fixtures that I made for my 55 gallon tank. I decided to go with the high power leds because its cheaper but also I didn't see many fixtures online using these leds so I wanted to try something new.

There is a guy on youtube that used some of those high power led grids. Do you have the specs or datasheets for those leds?

Very nice work! What colors and how are you going to protect all that from water splashes? Been looking into my own DIY LED project for my 29g BioCube and I still have a lot of uncertainties. For example after you've connected all your LED's to the heatsink and sautered the wires together, do you run the wires to the driver or to the power supply?

Did you get this from a site that features extreme deals?

if so, the info provided is:
    - 2400 Lumen output
    - Working voltage: 16~18V
    - Working current: 2100mA
    - Color: White (6000-6500K)
    Dimensions: 2.2 in x 2.05 in x 0.16 in (5.6 cm x 5.2 cm x 0.4 cm)

They also make a Warm White (3000-3200K) version.

Wow I didn't know there was anyone interested in my topic. For some reason i'm not receiving any notifications of new posts so I figured there was none, but i'm very happy there are some that are interested.

The only specs I have on these are from the website where I purchased these. 30W High Power LEDs, Red, Green, Blue, White, Warm White, Yellow for Choice [LED-30W0310] - US$19.25 : SatisLED Store, China LED wholesaler-China LED Manufacture-Wholesale LED lights at Factory Price. I saw only like one or two youtube videos of people using these leds. I was very surprised because they are so cheap and they do put out a lot of light and yet I couldn't find many builds using them. Hopefully this doesn't mean they aren't going to work great. One of these spreads light very nicely over a 2 foot space in the tank which I think is really good.

I got these from SatisLED Store, China LED wholesaler-China LED Manufacture-Wholesale LED lights at Factory Price. But yes, you can also get some from sites like dealextreme.com. Which is a really cool site by the way.

Thanks! I was hoping someone wouldn't bash me for my wiring, lol. I first started out with only 8 3 watt leds on each heatsink. Then I tried it over my tank and it wasn't blue enough for me so I had to squeeze in my last leds that I had. So I basically had to resolder some of them and it was a pain. The colors I chose are royal blues for the 3 watt cree xre's and the 30 watt is a 20000k.

To protect the fixtures from splashes I wanted to make sort of an acrylic half box that would just be drilled into the canopy but then I found out for some reason you need the leds exposed to moving air so I have just decided to place a single piece of acrylic in front of them. And maybe bend the edges up or something to give the sides a little more protection, but we'll see about this.

The driver is the power supply. All you do is run the wiring from the leds to the driver/power supply and then plug this into the wall. If you look at the first pic I posted, on the very bottom there are the 2 meanwell drivers. The black and red wires towards the top of them are for the leds and the blue and brown wires towards the bottom of the driver is where you hook up a standard two prong plug like this http://reefledlights.com/shop/leviton-2-prong-plug/

As for the dim controller, the inventronics drivers I used have a built in dim controller and all you have to do is solder in a potentiometer and you're all set. But for some reason i'm having some trouble with dimming. I wrote the guy's at reefledlights.com and they told me it might be a bad potentiometer. So i'm hoping it is because I would really like to dim this fixture and if I can't it means I just spent the extra 20 dollars on the inventronics drivers for no reason.

I will def. post some more pics, probably a video as well. First I have to cut some holes in my canopy so I can't mount these in, and also make the splash shields. I just remembered I do have some more pics of the fixtures lit. If I remember, when I get home I will post those.

Just some pics. Sorry about the quality, they are either done with a cell phone or camcorder.
