Figured I would start my build thread. I am finally getting started on this after staring at it in my dining room for 6 months.

It will be a 300 Gallon Display with about 250 Gallons in Sump, refugium, and return sections. The display measures a whopping 78x30x36.

I will be running a Reeflo Barracuda through a Oceans Motions 4-way on a motor controller for the closed loop. On top of the closed loop, I will be running a pair of Vortech MP60s as well as a pair of Tunze 6125s.

I have accumulated most everything that I will need for this build, so let the pictures do the talking.

Reeflo Barracuda for closed loop. 4300 GPH
Reeflo Manta Ray for return. 5040 GPH

Oceans Motions 4-way.... no description needed.

Stupid expensive motor controller... This thing is a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) motor controller. I am able to change the speed of the pump attached without losing torque. It is currently set to do a 10 second ramp up and down to from 100%-40% of full speed, waiting 15 seconds in between ramps. It is completely customizable and a PITA to program, but I am looking forward to see what this thing performs like with the OM attached.

Some assorted plumbing supplies. The closed loop will be using a 2" supply line....;D

This is a massive SWC Skimmer that I picked up for fairly cheap. This thing uses a pair of PSK-2500 pumps. Should pull some nasty stuff out.

250 Gallon stock tank from the local farm store and two of my three 40 gallon food grade barrels. One barrel will be for my return section, and the other two will be for my water change barrels. I will be doing an automatic water change system with my Apex to change 5 gallons of water a day.

You are actually looking at 100# of Pukani rock from BRS. The smallest piece in the pic is the size of a baseball, with the largest piece measuring over 20" across.
If you have never laid eyes on this stuff, you are missing out. This is the best rock I have ever seen in the industry. A big thanks goes out to Bulk Reef Supply on some great pieces.

First thing first, this is a peninsula.... that requires 3 sides viewable. That means there needs to be a hole in that wall doesn't it.

I have been working this past week to prepare the header for the hole. This is a load bearing wall in my kitchen. I am using a rough-cut 4"x12"x8' solid oak piece to use as my header. It will be exposed in the kitchen to match the rest of the woodwork in the house.

Demo starts in 24 Hrs. Yay

Final sanding done... Stain and poly tomorrow.

Demo day is over... My helper bailed on me today, so I didn't get as far as I was hoping. Oh well.

I got the wall opened up and the electrical removed. Tomorrow, I will get the header installed.... hopefully.

Looks like a very organized and planned out build.

    R2D2 helping with the demolition.

I agree the Pukani is very nice rock I like the look.

Do you still have the frag tank going?

No frag tank. I still have my 150G up and running... although i looks like a frag tank. Not a single wall is not covered with frag racks. I should have plenty of coral for the new tank though. :)

R2D2 is a cooler from a grocery store from back-in-the-day. It will actually keep 40 bottles ice cold for 4 days in a nice bed of ice. I love that guy.

Looking forward to seeing some of those corals.

    Did I miss lighting type?

Honestly, I have not gotten into the lighting yet. The new tank is only 6 inches longer than my 150G, so most of the lighting will just transfer over for now. I will probably add a few more LED pendants down the road though.

As of now, this is what I have.

    2 x 6' VHO Super Actinics
    4 x 3' T5HO ATI Blue+
2 x 250W Radiums running on Lumatek Dimmables in IceCap Pendants.
    2 x 72W Rapid LED Pendants.

I had replaced 2 of my halides with the Rapid LED and have never been thrilled with the spread. Unfortunately, to get this deep, I had to sacrifice spread. I will most likely end up making another 2 of the units and stacking the two end LED units with the halides in the middle.
