So heres the stand thus far. I am in the process of putting a 3/4" plywood piece on the top and going to paint it after that. Basically I am not a carpenter and wanted to make this work well so since i have poor craftsmanship I way overdesigned it for a 40 gallon tank haha. I think it looks good/will work great though.

OH, and i ran out of plywood and dont want to pick another piece up, so i have a 3/4" piece of exterior plywood thats in good shape, think that will work fine for the top?

think it will work fine? what about the 3/4" exterior ply ive put on top. Ive heard not to use exterior wood, however its been sitting in my garage for years, i doubt there are any issues with it...

Actually, you are way overly strong. You didn't like the stand I built. It'll hold a TANK... not just a fish tank. Better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't worry about any treated wood as long as it isn't dripping into your water column which obviously shouldn't happen.

How are you planning to finish it??

honestly im in the midst of moving home quick. so im just going to paint it black, all of my furniture in my basement is black also so it will be fine, itll be in the corner so only the face will be exposed which im not even finishing right now. I am going to do the doors at a later date, i now have the top on and im going to start painting. :) tank will be up and running in no time.

That should hold a lot more than a 40 gallon aquarium. It might work for a small car.
