This could be a bit of a slow build thread but I started taking the first steps to getting the hexagon set up. I got my overflow kit and return kit both from glass-holes.com. The first step was cutting the holes in the tank.

I have a few shaky photos in there. I'll work on that as these updates progress. Got the overflow and return all plumbed into the aquarium itself. Next step is going to be building the aquascape into the hexagon. I'm thinking something along the lines of a spiral staircase. Rock is coming in a few days and i'll update as I get around to things.

I put together the pvc backbone for the rockwork today. I also picked up a good masonry bit to break through some rock. My rock should be here by wednesday I think. Anxious to get moving on the assembly of the structure.

Nice job. I used to have a 20 hex - I love hex tanks. It's pretty satisfying to drill your own tank isn't it? Look forward to seeing it fill up.

It was very very gratifying for me after I was able to breathe again.

What do you plan on putting in this tank, all the hex tank i've seen always look very cool. Nice work so far! What are your plans for flow I think it would be difficult to not get a whirlwind?

Next step will be putting together the aquascape. I think my rock from marcorocks is coming in tomorrow. I'll get that laid out and start drilling it to thread onto the PVC infrastructure. I'm going to use epoxy to attach the rocks both to each other and the PVC down the center.

The main worry in this build will be the flow. I was thinking about 4 small PH's low in the tank pointing to interfere with one another just before the surface. Maybe alternate them with a wave machine if I think it's necessary.

    Updates

Put together the rock work finally.

Used a 1/2 inch masonry bit to start out
    [IMG]

Then I bored out the hole by hand with a round file until the PVC pipe fit
    [IMG]

Fully assembled it looks like this. Shallow sand will cover the bottom of the pvc legs.

Gotta move slowly or my significant other gets suspicious ;) Most of the physical building is done now. Next will be stand work I think.

The tank came with a stand but i'm not a huge fan of the amount of space underneath it. Fitting a sump will be a pain in there and i'm not enthusiastic about it. I'm thinking of a triangular corner insert type stand but i'm not married to the idea. Ideas and input are always welcome.

Looks very nice. It will be interesting to see your build. I'm seen very few hex reefs. I kept a freshwater hex for years and loved it! Your rock work looks great!
