I been working on a design of a 5' x 5' tank that is 6' 1" tall and has a drop in it. the glass is half an inch thick and is pretty cool i hope i can build this one day ounce i get time here are a few pictures.

    tell me what you think!

I am making this in a 3D design program called Google Sketchup i am still working on it to make it perfect i don't know if it will have a sump below it or 2 Out of the water filters but i do know its going to be a salt tank.

That is an awesome project! Ive seen a drop-down here and there on the web and they make for a stunning set-up.

I really hope you do this - I will be watching for sure!

Same i hope this will work i have seen it out there but can't Get the Specific name/ brand and i can't find out where to buy it only from previous owners.

The tank will be amazing we will have the rock "glued" on the drop so it wont move and it will mimic the Florida Reef's because i love diving i been diving for 4 years and i love the Ledge on the Florida Reef's. All coral will be native to the Florida Ecosystem and the Fish will be native to but we still will have to decide.

On the top ledge part i might add a glass bump so it holds the sand in and doesn't allow it to flow everywhere.

I have actually thought of this concept before, but realized how much I would spend if I were to do it.. I would love to see someone actually do a tank like this

Ya it seems like a nice long project. The good thing about the designing of this is that my Best Friend dad owns a Furniture business that does furniture for hotels all over the world and he can help with the designing and gathering of the wood but the glass we will have to go Shopping!!

    Lights..

I still havent decided weather to have lights built into the whole design with a opening top or have two bars going from the top holding a light over the tank... any suggestions? I will probley do LED or if they have OLED because they use less power and LED's rule....

    The top wood are is 4' 10 1/2" x 4' 10 1/2" it is 1 3/4" thick

I have seen a tank like this up and running before. they are neat, but little things like crabs get stuck in the moat. Would it be all glass construction? or acrylic or a woody hybrid? Lots of different forces going on in any case.

LED's work, but have a ways to go before they are truly ready for sole reef tank illumination.
