That's how I got started in reefs. I'm 15. About five years ago my uncle gave me his 25 reef because he didn't have time for it and knew I kept pygmy octopuses and things like that. I still don't know as much as he does (no shame in that). He is a bio-chemist and does thing like graph the strontium depletion with different species of acros and tridacnas and sets up a drip line to keep it at his desired level.

    Hey Dude,
I may be way out of line for saying this, but it sounds like you need to take a deep breath slow down and do some reading. It is AWESOME to see young people interested in reefing, but with your current stocking and equipment and mile-a-minute thoughts with no research it sounds like things are heading for a meltdown.
I would start doing some serious research through this and other resources and *then* start asking the in depth questions. There is nothing wrong with being inquisitive, but asking very basic questions and relying on quickie answers isn't going to get you any ware. Remember, the only things that happen quickly in this hobby are bad.

    Snowflake eel,
I am going to have to agree with madlarkin on this. It sounds as though you may need to slow down a bit. There is a lot to be learned before setting up a reef. I am new to this hobby, in it only a year myself, but I learned a lot of the basic do's and donts from reasearch. The biggest leason I learned was patience. You need to have a plan when setting up a tank. With a good plan you are able to work within a budget.
You sound as though you have a good budget to start working with, dont blow it by buying things that you dont need. I bought a mag 7 return pump because my brother said it would be enough, next thing I know I am buying a mag 12 because the 7 wasnt enough. I could go on with more examples of things such as that. I dont want to see a young reefer get discouraged due to a few bad decisions.
On one of the other boards I read a fellow has his signature saying "Rome wasnt built in a day and either is a reef". These words hold true and I hope you remember them.
Anyways good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Again, did you take any of what was offered in?
Not trying to be overly negative, but breeding clowns requires a pretty specific setup and can be challenging for people with with plenty of experience. I reread the thread and it seems like you are putting the cart before the horse. Did you ever look more into what a protein skimmer does? or lighting requirements?
Charging in headlong and unprepared is just going to result in a lot of innocent sea life being lost.

    Looks are often misleading.

I am going to reiterate what has been already said:

    "Slow Down"

You seem to be running headfirst into a tank failure at mach speed.

If i were you before posting a easily answered question try the search engine dollars to donuts the answer will be on this site already. Also give people time to answer your question before burying them behind a ton of other posts. An idea may be make a list of your questions and then post them in one thread give us time to answer and then go from there.

Also you should know this (reefkeeping) is more of a lifestyle than a hobby. It consumes a lot of time and resources and should not be entered lightly.

I wish you the best and will end this by saying slow down take it easy and good things will come.

In the words of Omard (A poster that is missed) "Go Slow Let It Grow"

    Mhmm....
I seem to remember a saying about a horse and some water, but I could just be foggy.
Sometimes you just have to spend a bunch of money and kill a bunch of wildlife before you get the right idea.
Either way, not worth commenting on any more. I wish you the best in your clown endeavor and sorely hope you prove me wrong.

Um no. With the vast amount of knowledge that is shared across the countless number of forums, there is no reason that wasting money and killing livestock should be the way to learn a lesson. If you are patient, and responsible, that will be the last way you learn things.
