    It can kill bacteria good/ bad. I think if you need one depends on what you will have in the tank. Like lots of tangs. My 265 came with a 40w Pentair. It takes extra power from the pump to push it through. And you have to compensate for the extra water in the sump also. If you are good with quarentined fish when you buy them then you shouldnt worry. But it wont kill any bacteria that is already on a fish.

    Its a very nice tank, cant wait to see it really fill out in the future. Looks like you are letting it take its time, I like it.

    I use a GE Merling RO system. Part of it is showing behind the buckets. I run a carbon prefilter prior to the water entering the RO unit and have a DI resin tank that I run through the tank in the foreground.

    Electricity runs around $1000. per month, higher in the summer and a little lowers in colder months.

    The Life Guard module only has two 40 watt UV's, two are mechanical filters, and the other two are chemical filters. After the tank had been running a while, I did add two more 40 watt UV's which I put behind the tank.

    At last count, there were 90+ or so fish in the tank.....
