Thanks Daniel072. I am really hoping the weather cooperates Saturday so I can get outside and finish my stand. I think a few more hours of sanding and it will be ready for stain. And after I secure my support.

You're right and i have to agree, the wood is very pretty and would be a shame to stain it. I am really thinking I may leave it as is.

Mmm I got the same tank as you same stand. I was thinking it may need a little more support but didn't know if it was really needed. I guess I can add some to be on the safe side. Are those just basic 2x4s you use to add support.

I think when I stain mine ill try for a darker stain to kinda match my cheery wood floors

Those are 2 1/2 by 3/4 red oak. I would add support and also I would check the construction, mine is held together with staples, that's right, STAPLES! I can't trust the amount of weight that will be on there to just staples so I also invested in some small wood screws.

I would! When I was sanding on the side supports I leaned up on it and one of the supports pushed right out with the 2 staples not holding it in place very well.

This is the stain I got and it matches pretty good the mold around the aquarium, my wife wants me to stain it to match the tank, but I like the color of the wood without it, even if it does not match the tank :D

The last picture of my 40b tank I am sure. It's a nice day that stand will be done today. Time to get to work :D

Will the nice day held out and I got outside and finished my stand, got the supports in place and added my wood screws to the construction. I am more than confident the stand will hold together now.

One last thing, make up my mind if I want stain or not. The red oak sure stands out.

Any other corrections can be made on the spot while I am setting up the tank. I am sure my hoses to the sump will end up short with the taller stand and tank than the 40b.
