I finally got my 75 gallon reef ready tank! So good to be coming back into this hobby!
Okay, so I’m looking into getting a Tunze Silence 1073.04 or .05 as my return pump. I don’t like the price of the .05 that’s why I was thinking of buying the .04. Do any of you know if the .04 will be enough for a 75 gal tank? I don’t think the .02 would be enough, but I could be wrong.
Also, what protein skimmer would you recommend? I hear a lot of people say the Reef Octopus is best. And do I need a pump for the skimmer? I should also ask what size would be best for a 75 and quaitly of one that is a little more cheap.
I used to have a simple 10 gal reef tank with a HOBF, so I don’t know much about skimmers.
Also, we are only having a few fish in the tank.
    Thank you all!

Reef Octopus is trusted brand. The general rule of thumb is to get skimmer rated for twice the system volume you plan on having. Not really familiar with the return pumps you listed but:
    - you should not use your return for all the water movement. Plan for some poeerheads.
    - the amount of flow trough the sum should be around the flow of your skimmer pump.
    - if you are getting a new skimmer it should come with a pump.
    - you can/ should plan using a more powerful pump than you need at start up and dial it down at the beginning. That way you can use the spare flow later on to run media reactors and other equipment you might need as your system matures.
    GL with your build!

bubble magus makes a good skimmer abd they are fairly cheep to get ahold of so that is a good option. nac3 or nac5 are good options

as far as a return pump agreed a bit bigger isnt a bad thing but try to match the overflow and return pump within 200 GPH of each other and you wont have to dile back anything.
