After how easy it was to take my 8.5 down to safeway I decided that I should run it while I'm waiting to build the stand and other little stuff for it. Eventually it will use this DIY HOB overflow http://www.3reef.com/forums/i-made/acrylic-diy-overflow-102067.html And the aqua-clear and ramora aqua-c skimmer will go in a 10gal sump and I'll add a ATO, but this is what it's going to start as........... once I go to the store and get some water lol

I was thinking I was only going to run this light for a little while with some shrooms in it and switch over to something better when I get it, but I've been thinking about low light tanks for a little while now and thought I'd see how it gos. Everything I read and see about leds is talking about sps and high light setups. I'm always picking up cheep stuff because I'm on a small budget, so this is what I got going on here. I got the tank for 20$ because I'm friends with the people at the lfs, the aqua clear I got at the flea market for 1$, and the ramora protein skimmer and light I got from a friend for 70$. He said he had not run the light, but it's this light. 225 Blue and White LED Aquarium Plant Grow Light Panel | eBay

I have no real confidence in this light, but like I said I've not really seen any low light led tanks off cheep leds, so I don't really know. I've got some extra stuff from my bigger tanks in there (everything is from my bigger tanks, so that's why I'm not really worried about a cycle), so if it does not work it's ok.

LOL I used christmas light over my 20 gallon for about 2 weeks so this surly cant be too much worse, (P.S. I have boost leds over it now)

I would like to see the outcome just to see if they can be used at all with any type of corals

That actually looks pretty decent. Interested in seeing where this goes.

I'm surprised at how good it looks, but I don't know anything about the par and I doubt it can be very good, but I hope it's better than christmas lights lol. I tossed the monti cap in there for fun and because I have a few extra frags and no one around here really wants that stuff much, but it's not really worth shipping costs to ship one frag.

I think you'd be surprised at it. I'm not saying it going to be show stoppingly high par but should be enough for what you want.

those leds will look good to the naked eye, but for what the coral is dependant on it will be lacking. Most of those fixtures use 1 watt leds at a blue and white even mix. Not ideal for what corals want. Personally i think that light might be good for a fowlr but doubt corals would live and thrive long term.

Just wanted to point out that the original poster stated in topic that they are testing a low light led.
