Sounds like something got stuck inbetween the paper towel and glass when you were cleaning it.

It only takes a few quick wipes and before you even realize it . . . . poof!!! Scratch city!

Sorry to hear about your glass

my biocube has so many scratches in and out of the tank, in mostly because a pebble was stuck between my magfloat and the glass over the years, sometimes spirorbid worms grows on there, and rest of the tank also, but i hate it when they grow on there.

My niece / nephew once scratched my tank with scissors, but they are like 3, so whatever.
I learned to just accept it lol, but I really want to get a new tank soon or later, but wont happen for awhile..

well I scratched this with a wet paper towel on the outside and it has multiple scratches and I am 1000% positive there was no sand or anything else involved -- cheap glass I suppose.

    Cheap glass is certainly a reasonable explanation . . . .

I also wonder (on the cheap glass theme) if the compositional characteristics of the glass (iron content, silica content, etc) in this particular example are identifiable and indeed contributors to your scratching.

I also own a Oceanic BC which is scratched inside and out. I know the inside was my fault . . . but now that I hear your story and read it . . . perhaps the outside is prone to easy scratching (as is the inside).

I've owned a bio cube for about 6 months. I think mine is glass and I have never noticed scratches on mine. I clean it with a paper towel and water.

well this is a wonderful surprise... if it's on the outside, perhaps there are some ways to fill the scratches?

BioCubes are glass, I have a 29gallon, they do seem to scratch easily but not with a paper towel.

Is it possible that you lean across it (possibly to clean the filter) and something on your clothes is coming into contact with it? That could cause the scratches.....just a thought.
