my cheapo HOB protein skimmer

well i needed something for my tank until i finish my sump so i got a Rio hang on skimmer. i know it probably sucks but it was dirt cheap and thought it would work until my sump was complete for my 20 gal long reef. so just wondering how to make sure my skimmer is set perfectly. i wanna make sure its the most efficient it can be for the time being.

if your getting brown coloured liquid in the cup, its set up properly
if the water is only slightly brown, your not collecting much waste
the darker it is the more efficient the skimmer is performing IMO

if you get 1 cm or so every 3 days from that skimmer (depending on Bio load) your doing OK IMO

please post ur opinion on this skimmer i need a cheap hob skimmer for my 10 gal sw molly tank but i dont wanna spend alot on it

 

it worked great for my needs until i broke it lol now i have a custom skimmer thats working very nicely
