Ok let me start by saying i have a 55g tank that has been running ok for about 2 1/2 months now last week i bough some red leg and blue leg hermit crabs that seem to doing ok but i realized that they only seem to go on my rocks and not my sand bed is there a reason for that. To add to that i have seen a quite number of worms coming out of my rocks someone on here told me it was a bristle worm is that bad ??

Bristle worms are a nice member of the cuc. Your tank is so young you're likely to see a algae or cyano growth on the sand issues. What type of snails do you have?

The hermits will go anywhere there is food, which there would be more on your rock. Snails are one of the best things you can have for your CUC.

The diatoms will fade away/die off once all the silicates have been used up, there is no need to buy snails specifically for diatoms.

Silicates are present in increased numbers from the new tank, sand, equipment......Diatoms are part of the normal cycle of a new set up. The diatoms need silicates, once the silicates have been utilized by the diatoms the diatoms typically just die off, often to be replaced by cyanobacteria which will fade to be replaced by green hair algae which you'll need snails for. These are the typical algae blooms that you'll see especially if you're not using an RO filter.
You can buy RO/DI water at walmart or a like, do not use the machines on the street or outside stores, the filters are usually very old and the water has high phosphate levels.

The plastic in the bottle may have contributed or your tab water might contain a lot of silicates. Put up an image of the growth and we can ID it to make sure it's diatoms. :)
