No way it was the clam. Im betting hermits and snails made quick work of them. Foil around the tank is new to me. You have to find out what is causing the algae to make it go away. Sorry for your losses but the food chain is part of nature and shouldnt be taken out on creatures who are doing what they were made to do.

it was most likely your cleanup crew got them after they had died or were weakened badley. it happens alot in reef tanks. i have lost some decent fish over a period of 6 to 8 hours never to see any trace of them again.

This recently happened to me. Except with no aluminum foil;D

One night my Six line is doing his thing. The next day he is gone without a trace. Prior to that I have had cases of two disappearing shrimp and a little yellow Goby. I searched everywhere, the floor, the pumps, the fuge, the rocks - everywhere. Not even a fin I tell ya'. Not even a fin.:skull:

I have no clams. My guess is a mantis shrimp does the killing and the 30+ crabs and 15+ snails (nafarius snails included) do the clean up.

It's right out of Pulp Fiction.:jester:

Usually I wrap my fish with foil to cook it. With that said......how does your clean-up crew like them, Original or extra crispy?

J/K. Were your lights on while you had it wrapped with foil? My guess is that maybe the tank overheated with that foil and lights on and they died and ofcourse, the clean-up crew........cleaned up!

no the lights were off...i was trying to get rid of the brown algae

the Astria snails love it tho...but still have that problem on my sand ...o well

Are sponges and clams beneficial of reef tanks in any way...as far as improving the water quality?
